JM Fields

Speaking of chic and fashionable, Natick had it’s share of grand openings in the 1950’s and ’60’s too. August 16, 1957 was the opening of Natick’s grandest shopping center to date, at the intersection of Route 9 and North Main St. The anchor store was JM Fields, and the other stores included a Stop & Shop, and a Woolworths. It was a dual grand opening for JM Fields, as they opened another store at Wellington Circle in Medford on the same day.
For those who don’t remember, Fields was a predecessor to Zayres, same size, same kind of merchandise. They had a tower with colorful sheet metal panels outside the front door, and inside as you passed the registers, there was an elevated section for customer service.
